You will go over TWO bridges to get here -- the first is
the Jamestown / Verrazzano Bridge and the second is the Claiborne
Pell (Newport) Bridge ($4 toll or EZPass) where you can see Rose Island
on the south side (to your right).
- Take the first exit off the
Newport Bridge and turn right at the stop sign onto JT Connell
Road that changes to Farewell Street at the traffic lights.
- Proceed
straight on Farewell Street between the two cemeteries (proof
colonial people had a sense of humor).
- Go right at the next
stop light onto America's Cup Avenue towards the Gateway
Visitor's Center.
- Go through several more stop lights and stay in the
right lane on America's Cup Avenue. You're going to keep
the water on your right all the way to Fort Adams.

you'll see a statue of a wave with feet coming out of it.
Proceed south on Thames Street approximately 1/2 mile until

Keep the water on your right. Follow Wellington Avenue past
the Ida Lewis Yacht Club where the road turns left and goes

to Fort Adams State Park.
- Take a right onto Fort Adams State
Park on Fort Adams Drive and go up the hill to a stop sign.

You'll pass Sail Newport on your right and a church steeple
on your left before you enter a large parking lot with black
gooseneck street lights along the waterfront.
- Be sure to note which dock
you've been instructed to meet the boat!
- The first dock on your
right is ALOFSIN SOUTH, followed by Alofsin North. They're
connected by floats and it looks like a playpen for boats.
(If you remember getting a phonetic alphabet lesson: F=Foxtrot,
S=Sierra, you're probably supposed to meet at this dock.)
- The
VISITOR CENTER DOCK is at the farthest end of the parking
lot, under the last black gooseneck street light, opposite
the red brick Visitor Center & Rest Room building.
- A mile further
across the water you'll see the Pell-Newport Bridge and the
Rose Island Lighthouse beneath it . . . you're almost there!
- If
you're staying overnight, display your pink overnight RILF
parking pass on your car dashboard.
Don't miss the boat! Wave to the Jamestown-Newport Ferry
or the Foundation's boat Starfish when you see it coming
so the crew knows you are waiting to be picked up. Call only
if you are late or get lost.
