Group Outings & Tours

Offered April through October
School field trip programs take precedence.

We offer group tours, plus several private meeting spaces in the newly restored Fog Signal building and our about-to-be restored barracks of Ft. Hamilton. Call to discuss your needs. (The fog signal itself is NOT operational, by the way!)

Rose Island is operated under "Pack it in. Pack it out." rules. Since no tax dollars support the maintenance or operation of the Lighthouse, Fort Hamilton, or Wildlife Refuge, we rely on our visitors to leave only their footprints and landing fees behind.

INFORMATION, FEES & HOW TO GET HERE

• GROUP PACKAGE
$16.50 Adults; $13.75 Seniors and Children (ages 3-12 yrs).
No minimum July-August when ferry runs on a schedule. Minimum fee $200 the rest of the year. Fees include transportation and a tour of the Lighthouse and Fort, plus use of our picnic tables, toilets, beach and the grounds, to the extent they are open that time of year.

• TRANSPORTATION
Either the Foundation's boat or the Jamestown-Newport Ferry will provide transportation depending on the size of your group and the time of year. From July - September, the ferry operates on a fixed schedule. Other times the boats are chartered to meet your needs.

• HOURS
The Lighthouse Museum, meeting and picnic areas, are open from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM daily. Our Wildlife Refuge is open the same hours, only from August 15 to April 1.

• MEETING SPACES
A small private meeting space is available in the Fog Horn building (pictured above) that is suitable for up to 8 people. It is located below the lighthouse, away from the hustle and bustle of tours and other events that might be going on. Larger, equally private spaces are available in the barracks of Ft. Hamilton. (Fee: $50 for 2 1/2 hours/ $100 full day).

• PICNIC LUNCHES
Bring your own food or let us provide a bag lunch that includes a large sandwich, bag of chips, fruit and bottled water for $15 each (48 hrs. notice needed, minimum 10 lunches).

• ABOUT BRINGING BOATS
We include transportation in our fee because we have no dockage for private boats. However, kayaks and other small boats may be pulled up ONLY on the beaches that are closest to the lighthouse. (Boats are not allowed any time on any other beaches or shores.) Regular landing fees apply on a per person basis - $5 adults; $4 children ages 6-12 and seniors 65 and older. FREE for RILF members and children 6 yrs. and under.

• NATURE NOTES
Walking around the perimeter of Rose Island is prohibited between April 1 and August 15. Restricted areas are marked with signs and are strictly enforced by our guides, our keepers and by the gulls. There is also a self-preservation element here, for the "attack gulls" will swoop and POOP all over you if you get too close to their babies!

• NO TICKS
Bring your sunscreen, but you don't have to bring bug repellent. Rose Island has no mammals, therefore, no ticks, and the sea breeze keeps the mosquitoes away.
